The Serial Data Regulator provides a trusted method of transferring information, in one direction, between computer networks or communications systems which have different domain security policies.


Possible uses for the SDR include, but are not limited to:


  • Data Fusion - Information from various low classification sources such as meteorological, radar and other sensor information can be passed to higher classified systems for aggregation and processing.
  • \r\n


  • Messaging Systems - ACP or formatted messages and E-mail can be passed from low classified switches or MTAs to higher classified systems.
  • \r\n


  • Information Services - News data and Internet Information can be passed into higher classified information systems.
  • \r\n


  • Resource Sharing - Expensive resources such as colour printers can be shared for both classified and unclassified networks.
  • \r\n


The SDR maintains the confidentiality of information on the higher level domain by preventing, to a high level of assurance, data passing either overtly or covertly from the high level domain to the low level domain.
